
Description
This session will explore the provision of human milk and or breast/chest feeding. The presenter will share current research on same sex mothers and their lactation experiences. In addition, informal milk sharing will be presented for those families who do not have the capacity to produce human milk.
- This course contains three separate lessons, with a short quiz at the end of each lesson.
- Quizzes may be taken more than once for an improved score.
- You will be required to complete an evaluation at the end of this course.
- A certificate will be available after the completion of the course evaluation.

Diane L. Spatz, PhD, RN-BC, FAAN
Diane Spatz is a Professor of Perinatal Nursing & the Helen M. Shearer Professor of Nutrition at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing sharing a joint appointment as a nurse researcher and director of the lactation program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the clinical coordinator of the CHOP Mothers’ Milk Bank.
Objectives
Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to:
- Describe the wide variety of diverse family structures.
- Discuss implications of the provision of human milk and breastfeeding in LBGTQ families.
- Articulate current research on same sex mothers and their lactation experiences.
